Charlotte Gordon wraps up the Belmont Public Library’s One Book One Belmont Frankenstein calendar of events this fall with a discussion of her groundbreaking dual biography, Romantic Outlaws. The work brings to life a pioneering English feminist and the daughter she never knew.  Mary Wollstonecraft and Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, has each been the subject of numerous biographies.  Yet no author has ever examined both their lives in one book–until now. Come hear Gordon discuss the truly romantic and sometimes scandalous (at least for their time period) lives of Mary Shelley & Mary Wollstonecraft, and learn of the lasting impact Wollstonecraft, author of A Vindication of Rights of Woman, had on her daughter despite the fact the Wollstonecraft passed away mere days after Shelley was born.

Steven Schlozman, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, staff child psychiatrist at Mass General Hospital, science fiction aficionado and author of Zombie Autopsies, will introduce Gordon. Charlotte Gordon is an award-winning author whose work has appeared in The New York TimesThe Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. A Distinguished Professor of the Humanities at Endicott College, she has most recently written the introduction to Penguin’s re-issue of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
