From wild and remote landscapes, to dilapidated buildings, howling winds, vulnerable heroines and supernatural happenings, Gothic fiction has intrigued and unsettled readers for more than two centuries. To mark the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (a ground breaking novel that fused gothic, horror and science fiction), we are delighted to bring together a panel of experts to discuss our fascination with Gothic stories. Our panel will include academic researcher Franziska Kohlt and contemporary Gothic and Horror writers Andrew Michael Hurley (The Loney and Devil’s Day) and Jess Kidd (The Hoarder) who will also discuss and read from their latest books. This event will be chaired by Dr Serena Trowbridge, School of English, Birmingham City University.
