Why Science Fiction? Isn’t Frankenstein a Horror Story?
While it is true that Mary Shelley’s most famous work, Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus explores themes of gothic horror, the mad scientist, and the responsibility of creation, did you know that Mary Shelley is often considered the mother of science fiction? Her novels were the first of their kind to use science fact of the day to create science fiction involving technical achievements beyond those possible at the time.
